Summary

Sleater-Kinney's co-leaders Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein dig into 25 years of shared history-making music and making noise。 Listen to this bold duo speak openly about the places, people, and movements that have shaped their career as well as the evolution of their creative and personal relationship。 The bandmates and friends trace how their ambitions and their relationship have continued to inform each other and how they've navigated through the ups and downs for the sake of the band and their art。 They move seamlessly through the different chapters of the band, sharing peeks behind the curtain, like the story behind their beloved autobiographical song “One More Hour”, which they wrote about their own experience breaking up as a romantic couple and finding their way back to each other as friends and bandmates。

They dive into their ongoing journey from their beginnings out of the Riot Grrrl scene in Olympia, Washington, to Carrie's triumph with the TV show Portlandia, and on to their continued efforts to challenge each other and meet the political moment。 It's a deeply personal and exciting exploration of themes that have followed them throughout their career, like anxiety, activism, feminism, LGBTQ identity, motherhood, friendship, creativity, and change - all illustrated by evocative new recordings that'll make you turn up the volume。

This entry to the Words + Music series features eight exclusive new versions of songs spanning the band's 10-album discography (so far), from “One More Hour” and “One Beat” to “Path of Wellness”, and “Worry With You” from their 2021 album Path of Wellness。

This was an book included on my audible so I just read it without knowing much about this story。 I looked into the music and its not my kind, so the book was ok to read but not my fav。 Happy they did it, happy they are still a band!

Fans of Sleater-Kinney will love this short audiobook in which Carrie and Corin cover their highlights and lowlights of the 25 years of making music together, from the Riot Grrrl scene all the way to the creating and recording of their newly released album, Path to Wellness during Covid。 Their personalities and strong bond to each other really come out in One More Hour。 In addition to the interesting band-related content, they chat about a number of other personal issues in each of their lives, Fans of Sleater-Kinney will love this short audiobook in which Carrie and Corin cover their highlights and lowlights of the 25 years of making music together, from the Riot Grrrl scene all the way to the creating and recording of their newly released album, Path to Wellness during Covid。 Their personalities and strong bond to each other really come out in One More Hour。 In addition to the interesting band-related content, they chat about a number of other personal issues in each of their lives, including what they did during the band's ten-year hiatus。 Among other things, Corin raised two children and Carrie created the great TV show Portlandia with Fred Armisen。 They never missed a beat after reuniting - creating three critically acclaimed albums, and putting on great loud, high energy, live shows。 I had the opportunity to see them absolutely rock a sold out Palace Theater in St。 Paul in 2019。 Their new album is fantastic and is in heavy rotation in my car and ear pods。 Also recommended for Sleater-Kinney fans is Carrie's memoir, Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl。 One More Hour is a great compliment to it。 Oh, and One More Hour features a Sleater-Kinney song between each chapter, including two from the new album。 Fantastic! 。。。more

Pretty much cried the whole time while listening to this Words + Music episode, a kind of hybrid book/podcast, in this case featuring one of my favourite bands of all time, Sleater-Kinney。 As I get older, and artists I admire do to, it's fascinating to reflect on how you've grown as a person, and how they've evolved too。 I've loved Sleater-Kinney for their 25-year career, and they feel like a family to me。 Fun fact: their first ever gig was actually in Australia。 It's not only the incredible mus Pretty much cried the whole time while listening to this Words + Music episode, a kind of hybrid book/podcast, in this case featuring one of my favourite bands of all time, Sleater-Kinney。 As I get older, and artists I admire do to, it's fascinating to reflect on how you've grown as a person, and how they've evolved too。 I've loved Sleater-Kinney for their 25-year career, and they feel like a family to me。 Fun fact: their first ever gig was actually in Australia。 It's not only the incredible music they create。 They're similar in age to me。 They were one of the major bands to come out of the Riot Grrrl movement in the US and then globally (of which I know a nerdy amount about because it literally saved my life)。 I'm humbled by their vulnerability and candor here, as they speak about their journey as humans and bandmates。 This is the first time they've spoken so openly about being a couple, ending things, yet realizing that the band was too special to not continue platonically。 It must have been really tough。 We're also treated to new versions of a few songs here, across most of their albums。 。。。more

As a fan of Sleater Kinney since the early 2000s, I loved the story telling of their early years and journey from start to present。 I enjoyed the stories about the songs and relationships in the band。 If you enjoy music documentaries, are a fan of the band, or like Carrie Brownstein from Portlandia, you will probably get a kick out of this。 Excuse me while I go dance around my living room to Call the Doctor and Dig Me Out。

Natalie

It was more like a podcast but it was interesting。

Rick

Too brief。 Would like to hear more stories。 Otherwise nice。

Jack

A good overview of the band for the uninitiated。 If you are a fan, you’ll love it。

Bob

Short audiobook。 I found it interesting because I like Sleater-Kinney and it gave me more insights into the members and their interactions。

What a fun way to spend a Sunday morning。

Obvious not really a book and kind of barely a podcast。 This series on Audible generally wastes interesting stories by bands and musicians that I think are most interesting and important than the audio program that comes from it。 I don't know if this is a weakness in the formatting, the interview process, the editing, or the limits of the time (it's always around an hour to an hour and a half)。 For example, the very great James Taylor program ends up skimming over very fascinating discussions of Obvious not really a book and kind of barely a podcast。 This series on Audible generally wastes interesting stories by bands and musicians that I think are most interesting and important than the audio program that comes from it。 I don't know if this is a weakness in the formatting, the interview process, the editing, or the limits of the time (it's always around an hour to an hour and a half)。 For example, the very great James Taylor program ends up skimming over very fascinating discussions of mental health, a wild and sad childhood, and other elements of his story to make it fit。 A thing that happens in these programs which is my fault and not theirs, is that not only do I not really care about hearing the music being referenced, some of it being ridiculously famous and therefore absurd to play, but since I listen in 2x speed, the music sound silly。Anyway, Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker。 I am not a huge Sleater-Kinney fan, as I only really kind of know one album, but I do know Carrie Brownstein from tv obviously, as well as from the band Wild Flag。 So the issue with this documentary format is not that these two musicians don't have really interesting things to say, they do, but that this format waters every thing down。 It's a storytelling format, which is good, but I'd rather see more journalism working here。 For example, a question that would CERTAINLY not make it to the program is how can the musicians what they refer to as the ethics/values-driven elements of Riot Grrrl with putting out a toothless Audible interview as their "We Will Tell Our Story"。 。。。more
